In November, my Mr. turned 51. Y’all know I can’t let a birthday go by without some sort of decoration or celebration. This year, I went beyond that. I threw him a little party that turned into a pretty fun shindig.
BTW, I think I just found my new favorite word for party: SHINDIG! It’s defined as a “a large, lively party, especially one celebrating something.” This party wasn’t all that large, but it was certainly lively.
I had him pick a few friends to invite over. We had cold beer, grilled meat and a fire. What more could a man ask for? There may or may not have been Irish Whiskey involved, too.
Clayton grilled up this amazing sirloin. We had all the fixings for steak sandwiches, but honestly, the meat was so good, I think most of it was gobbled up before it ever made it to the buns. As one of our friends stated, that meat was “on point.”
We also had venison chili and a few other nibbles. Then, there were the desserts…
and of course, decorations. I didn’t go crazy, but I did set a sweet little dessert table for my Mr.
Forget about being Forever 21, Forever 51 is where it’s at now. You know that 50 is the new 40, right? So that makes me 32. I’ll take it.
I made a little paper flag banner and hung it on a green chalkboard that was mine as a little girl. I played countless hours of “school” with that board.
I made two kinds of cupcakes. One was a Chocolate Bourbon Pecan cupcake that I made from an Archer Farms mix that consisted of a chocolate bourbon cake mix, with a cinnamon pecan frosting and a caramel drizzle. There are no words for how delicious they were. No. words.
The other was a Caramel Apple cupcake, also made from a mix, with a homemade Caramel Buttercream frosting. I also baked up a batch of my favorite chocolate chip cookies.
I kept it simple for this party, but I don’t think anyone went away lacking. We had good food and good friends there, so I call it a success!
