I know it’s crazy to be in love with a piece of furniture, but if I had to choose an inanimate object to be my best friend, this lovely girl would be the one for me. She is quirky, fun-loving and oh, so pretty with her curvy French style.
I owe a lot to this sofa. She played a role in inspiring me to start this blog. In fact, one of my first titles was “My Funky Red Sofa.” On a side note: See all those toys under there? Maybe some crumbs, too? Oh well, that’s my life at the moment. I’m just keeping it real. Have you looked under your sofa lately? Don’t do it.
I happened upon her in a little thrift store here in town. I was in there looking for accessories for Clayton’s office. She was a bright jewel in this place for sure. It was shocking to see her there, like seeing a Prada purse at Goodwill. I am pretty sure it was fate. I knew I needed this Louis XV style sofa even though I definitely did not need another sofa at the time.
I grabbed her and we skipped out of that store. Actually, if I recall, I had to go get Clayton’s truck and one my big boys to help me get her home. It was probably one of the hottest days of the year, too. But, it was worth it.
I couldn’t pass up the pretty details of this Rococo lady. For instance, I love the shell motif on the center of the back.
And these legs!
She was in amazing shape when I bought her. I think she was barely used. My first thought was that I would have to recover it. I mean, that fabric is kinda crazy. But, you know, it grew on my very quickly.
She’s definitely a reproduction, made by Heritage Distinctive Upholstery, a company acquired by Drexel Furniture in 1957. This sofa is probably from the 1970s or 80s. I can’t find a date on it.
All in all, I think I got her for a steal at $350.
She totally fits my eclectic taste.
Maybe one day, when I don’t have a small child anymore, I will have her reupholstered. But for now this crazy pattern just works. It’s bright and fun and hides all the dirt and grime that Owen smears on it.
She’s comfy and cozy and all mine.
