Blueberry Picking in the Golden Isles

by Kimbrough

Spring is the time for warmth and growth. The grass and trees turn green and days become longer. It’s also the time when local fruits start ripening.

We are very fortunate to have a u-pick blueberry farm right here in our town. Blu-Witt Farm is family-owned by Tom and Brenna DeWitt. They have 3.5 beautiful acres of blueberry bushes that they graciously open to the public while the berries are ripe. For $20, you can fill a gallon bucket.

Recently, JD and I joined my friend, Sara, and her adorable son, Campbell, for a morning of blueberry picking at Blu-Witt Farm. It was a gorgeous, sunny morning and we had a great time photographing Sara and Campbell as they picked some of the largest and most delicious blueberries I have ever encountered.

Thankfully, the DeWitts encourage sampling straight from the bushes. Blueberry picking is even more fun when you get the chance to taste as you pick. I think Campbell would agree with that!
