Last summer, we collaborated with my parents to throw a couples party for a sweet young couple who were just weeks away from celebrating their marriage. We decided to do a Low Country Boil party because there’s nothing quite like spending time with friends and feasting on a big, steamy pot of seafood mixed with corn, potatoes and sausage. Low Country Boil is a super simple meal, but really delicious treat. Once prepped, everything cooks in one pot and at the end is poured out into serving pans or sometimes straight onto a newspaper-lined table for guests to enjoy.
I started the concept for this party with the invitations. I found the shrimp clip art and designed the rest of the invitation around that. I made some labels for the food using the same fonts and the shrimp art. My friend, Cyle from Hope Farm Co. custom made a wooden chalkboard shrimp for us. It served as a decoration and a gift for the couple. I made runners from a black and white fabric. We lined the tables with terra cotta pots painted a shrimpy pink and gold. We filled the pots with Coleus plants and these became favors for guests.
The menu consisted of a small veggie and pimento cheese tray, mini tomato pies and the star of the evening, Low Country Boil that included potatoes, corn, kielbasa, shrimp and clams. Needless to say, everything was so delicious and there were very few leftovers.
