Last September, we celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary. TWENTY years! Say what? We wanted to do something special and unique to celebrate and commemorate the occasion. We got our friend and amazing photographer, JD from Dickerson Arts, to do a special anniversary photo session.
We originally thought we would do the shoot on the beach, but after a lot of discussion, we opted for the golf course behind our house. After all, we met at a golf course when Clayton was a PGA professional. I even did my bridal portraits on the golf course where we met. I’m so happy we chose this location over the beach. It was the perfect spot!
I gathered some sweet and simple items for a picnic supper. I made pimento cheese sandwiches and antipasto skewers. I bought a pretty chocolate cake, put it on a cake stand and surrounded the cake with Clayton’s favorite candy, malted milk balls. We had a bottle of champagne (Andre’…don’t judge. I like it.) to toast to 20 years. We used the same crystal flutes that we used at our wedding reception.
For our wedding, the windows of the church were decorated with magnolia boughs. So, when I put together a quick bouquet I added magnolia. We used a family heirloom throw, a bench that my Dad made and napkins made by my friend, Jennifer, that had the outline of state of Georgia on them. These were a great way to celebrate the fact that have spent the majority of our married life here in Georgia. We also incorporated a photo of my wedding bouquet my Mother had pressed and framed for me shortly after we got married.
We had such a great day doing this shoot. I loved how we used details from our wedding along with present day items with sentiment. It was a super special way to honor our 20th anniversary.

Don’t you want to see more of JD’s work? Of course, you do! He did Banks’ Senior session. He also photographed our big dinner party last Spring.
