Have you noticed that I love making simple syrups and using them in cocktails? I recently used simple syrup in making Strawberry Cream Sodas, Vodka Gimlets and Blood Orange Palomas. Today’s feature is a Pear and Ginger Cocktail, containing a spicy-sweet ginger simple syrup.
I decided to try a ginger syrup because I wanted to make my own ginger ale. Not only does this syrup make a tasty ginger ale, it also tastes fantastic in cocktails, like this Pear and Ginger Cocktail.
This tasty beverage begins by combining pear juice, ginger syrup, a squeeze of lime and good vodka (like my favorite, Tito’s) in a cocktail shaker of ice. Shake it well it strain it over ice. Top with a splash of soda. The pear juice gives the drink a bright, clean flavor. Perfect for a Spring meal!
I love the taste of fresh ginger, so I like to peel it, slice it very thin and put it on a skewer. It makes a fun stirrer and gives the drink an extra burst of flavor. Cheers!
Ingredients
- 3 oz Pear Juice or Pear Nectar
- Squeeze of lime
- 1 oz Ginger simple syrup (recipe below)*
- 1.5 oz good vodka (I recommend Tito's Handmade)
- Club Soda
- slice of lime, thinly sliced ginger on a skewer
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of sugar, 1 cup of water and 1 cup of sliced fresh ginger.
- Bring to a boil and reduce to simmer until all the sugar is dissolved.
- Remove from heat. Let it steep for about 15 minutes. The longer it steeps the stronger the ginger flavor.
- Cool completely and store in the fridge.
- In a cocktail shaker with ice, combine the pear juice, squeeze of lime, ginger simple syrup and vodka.
- Shake well and strain over ice.
- Top with club soda.
- Garnish with lime and a thin slice of ginger on a skewer. Makes one cocktail.
