August is National Goat Cheese Month. Goat cheese is so good that it gets a whole month instead of just one day. I am excited to bring you a goat cheese appetizer recipe that uses one of my favorite foods to make Goat Cheese Truffles Two Ways!
How did I miss the fact that this is National Goat Cheese Month? Goat cheese is such good stuff and there is so much you can do with it that gets an entire month of love. I’m totally good with that.
Goat cheese is so light and creamy. It can take on sweet or savory flavors and pairs well with SO many foods. I have an old post where I simply spread it on crostini, topped it with berries and drizzled a healthy dose of honey over it. This goat cheese appetizer recipe requires a little more time than that one, but the results are amazing!
Goat Cheese Truffles: Savory and Sweet
Cheese platters should always contain salty and sweet options, so with this recipe for Goat Cheese Truffles Two Ways, you are covered on both ends of that spectrum. Add some crackers and fruit and you are done, son. You could also add nuts and meats to expand this cheese platter. I decided to keep it on the simple side though.
These truffles start with one batch of room temperature goat cheese combined with cream cheese and end with two distinctly flavorful goat cheese truffles. One is savory and the other is sweet. On the savory side, everything bagel seasoning is combined with fresh basil. For the sweet, I mixed pitted dates with vanilla and toasted cashews.
Invite some friends over or plan a nice date night in with your significant other. Roll out a platter of goat cheese truffles. Make some cocktails or open a bottle of wine and there you have a sweet (and savory) little plate of goodness to share. If you make these, take a pic and tag me on social media. We can be goat cheese lovers together!

Goat Cheese Truffles Two Ways
Ingredients
- 2 8 oz logs of goat cheese
- 1 8 oz cream cheese
- 6 TBSP Everything bagel seasoning divided
- 12-14 fresh basil leaves finely chopped, divided
- 6 dates pitted and chopped
- ½ tsp real vanilla extract
- 1.5 cups roasted no-salt cashews chopped
Instructions
- Bring goat cheese and cream cheese to room temperature. Mix them together until well combined. Divide the cheese mixture in half.
- In one medium bowl, combine half of the cheese mixture with 2 TBSP of the Everything bagel seasoning and half of the chopped basil to make the savory flavor. Mix well until the ingredients are all incorporated.
- In another medium bowl, combine the other half of the cheese mixture with the chopped dates and vanilla to make the sweet flavor. Again, mix well until the ingredients are all incorporated.
- Chill both mixtures for at least 30 minutes.
- In a shallow bowl, combine the remaining 4 TBSP Everything bagel seasoning and chopped basil to make the savory coating. Scoop the savory cheese mixture with a tablespoon or small cookie scoop and form into balls. Roll each ball in the coating until well covered.
- Pour the chopped cashews into another shallow bowl to make the coating for the sweet truffles. Scoop the sweet cheese mixture with a tablespoon or small cookie scoop and form into balls. Roll each ball in the coating until well covered.
- Refrigerate until serving time. I recommend storing them separately, so that your sweet truffles don’t end up tasting like Everything seasoning.
- This recipe makes about 24 truffles of each flavor.
