How this Hibiscus Non-Alcoholic Cocktail Came About
Zero-proof cocktails are a growing trend. More and more people are looking for healthier ways to celebrate. They are also reinventing how they enjoy a drink at the end of the day, imbibing in low AVB cocktails or alcohol-free cocktails that won’t leave them dragging the next day.
Cocktails are out for me this month because I am doing Whole30. I really love how I am feeling! My husband and I started playing around with mocktail recipes using kombucha and flavored sparkling water. It seems that adding fresh fruits and herbs makes any drink feel special.
Since I am feeling great, sleeping SO much better and enjoying being completely clear headed, I decided that I would do some research about mocktails. It seems they are becoming more and more popular. Even high end cocktail bars are offering tasty zero-proof drink that are far more sophisticated than a Virgin Daiquiri or a Shirley Temple.
I played around with various ingredients like a mad scientist and this recipe for my Hibiscus Non-Alcoholic Cocktail was born. This recipe is not Whole30 approved because it contains sugar in the simple syrup. For the sake of recipe testing, I had to taste it though!
What’s In This Non-Alcoholic Cocktail Recipe?
If you have been following my blog, you know that I love making simple syrups. There are so many ways to flavor them. For this mocktail recipe, I made a Hibiscus Rosemary flavored syrup using Hibiscus tea bags and fresh Rosemary Sprigs.
From that base, I layered on a coconut flavored sparkling water, Fee Brothers orange bitters and a big squeeze of fresh lime. Bitters do usually contain alcohol, but you usually only use a dash or two n a recipe.
Here’s the low down on ingredients you will need to make this recipe:
- Hibiscus Tea bags
- Sugar
- Water
- Fresh Rosemary sprigs
- Coconut flavored sparkling water
- Orange bitters (or orange zest, if you want to be completely alcohol-free)
- Fresh limes
