Get the RECIPE for Chocolate Walnut Krembos HERE!
I have been wanting to make Krembos for a while now. They have been on my wishlist since last Christmas. This week, my friend Christina from Patio Fashions sent me the most fun sprinkles ever! I knew immediately that the first thing I would use the sprinkles for would be making fun and festive Krembos.
Let me tell you about these sprinkles. They are a new product made by Libbie Summers, the creator of the lifestyle brand, A Food Inspired Life. Christina sent me the Hog Wild sprinkles, hues of pink with dashes of other bright colors, gold dragees and tiny pink pigs. Yep, that’s right. Tiny.pink.pigs. I die. Anyway, they are adorable and fun and the perfect topping for these Mallowmar-like cookies.
I had never heard of Krembos until I came across Molly Yeh’s post about them. She made Pistachio Chocolate Krembos. I saw her photos on Pinterest and was charmed by these sweet little puffs consisting of a cookie platform topped with dreamy marshmallow filling that’s been dipped in chocolate and topped with sprinkles. Delightful, indeed!
Krembos are made all over the world but are most popular in Isreal. There they are considered winter snacks as well as a substitution for ice cream. Because they melt easily, they are generally only made and sold from October to AprilKrembo means “cream in it.” Their design of crispy cookie, marshmallow middle, and chocolate topping is similar to s’mores, Moon Pies, Mallowmars, teacakes in the UK and Cream Buns in Denmark. Whatever you want to call them, I will call them delicious!
I followed the recipe Molly posted, except I used walnuts instead of pistachios. My marshmallow did not fluff up like I hoped, but this was my first time making it. Next time, I am going to do a little more research on how to make it. Even they turned out a little flat, they are super cute! Especially with those piggy sprinkles. Have you ever made these? If so, give me your secret for making fluffy marshmallow below in the comments.
